Salesforce and Rugby Tens Drive Innovation in Rugby

Real-time data and analytics enable smarter performance at Rugby Tens

Rugby Tens (R10) has launched a groundbreaking player, coaches and referees data system aimed at elevating training and competition performance. By combining Salesforce’s powerful cloud-based capabilities with the demands of high-performance sport management, R10 has been developing a customized system unique in the world of rugby.

This comprehensive, data-driven solution empowers R10 to revolutionize the rugby space by ensuring equal access to cutting-edge resources for men, women, boys, and girls, while accelerating player development.

“We believe this is a game-changer in rugby in general,” says Andreea Trufasu, CEO of both R10 and its main sponsor, PoolRx. “From youth development to elite competitions, Salesforce empowers us to deliver equality, innovation and data-driven decisions across every level of the game and our organisation.”

“Our vision at R10 is to develop exceptional rugby players and people, lead through inclusive rugby pathways and pursue excellence with a global impact. We’re on a mission to provide sustainable pathways to rugby players, coaches, referees and sports administrators through an innovative sports ecosystem and the Salesforce customisation plays a crucial role in this,” adds Trufasu.

With operations based at the R10 Rugby Villages in San Clemente (USA) and Gordon’s Bay (South Africa), the R10 delivers training programs tailored to high-performance level, youth and high school, as well as long-term and short-term programs such as camps and clinics.

The Salesforce system provides crucial, centralized tools that enable the management of comprehensive athlete data, ranging from performance metrics and training details to personal statistics and progress tracking. All players benefit.

How R10 made it happen

Led by R10 CEO, Andreea Trufasu, a tech veteran, R10 partnered with Danish-Romanian Salesforce specialists Wirtek to develop a tailored solution. Backed by R10’s main sponsor, PoolRx, the team brought together coaches, physios and operational staff to co-create a system that meets the unique demands of high-performance rugby development and competition.

“R10’s vision goes far beyond sport – it’s about people, passion, and possibility,” says Flaviu Zapca, COO of Wirtek. “To play a role in helping them bring this to life has been one of the most rewarding and inspiring experiences for me and our international team.”

Phase One implementation

Includes:

Centralised Player Data Management

Comprehensive player profiles with performance metrics, biometric data, medical history, travel and logistics integration. This makes it easier for coaches, medical teams, and performance staff to collaborate using real-time data from one up-to-date source. It allows for customization, such as eligibility to play for multiple national teams.

Streamlined Communication

Enables seamless communication between departments: coaching, medical, nutrition, and management. Automated alerts and updates when a player’s condition or performance changes, ensuring real-time and accurate decisions. Allows for managing treatment plans, rehabilitation schedules, and player wellness check-ins.

HP Program, Teams Selections and Recruitment

Keeps track of potential and existing recruits, agreements such as high-performance sponsorships, franchise selection and prize allocation. The system also assists in identifying talent based on data-driven insights, combined with interviews feedback that is recorded by various coaches.

Performance Tracking and Analytics

Integrates with other systems R10 uses, such as GPS trackers, PNOE, MyZone, and other performance tech to analyze training loads, recovery, and fatigue, customized by athlete. Future deployments include adding AI features, which will help spot trends, predict injuries, or optimize training plans by player.

Why Salesforce was selected

Salesforce was selected by R10 because it offers a powerful, centralized and customizable platform that streamlines the management of critical athlete data and performance insights, in both high-performance training and elite events.

Its ability to integrate training metrics, personal stats, and progress tracking into one unified system allows R10 to monitor and optimize player development and performance effectively, from beginner to elite level, across multiple years, and equally for men and women.

“Our customisation of Salesforce is on par with global leaders in sports innovation,” adds Trufasu. “Team GB (British Olympic Team) used Salesforce to manage athlete journeys and optimize performance across disciplines, while Formula 1 (F1) used Salesforce for fan engagement.”

A unique approach

“What makes our approach unique is how we are adapting technology to create equal opportunities for all the players in our R10 ecosystem, from beginners to elite, from boys to girls and senior players, across 30+ countries. Having access to data that empowers is not limited to a few anymore, but available to everyone who wants to realise their dream to better themselves through the active participation in sport, in our case rugby,” concluded Trufasu.
