Representing the Republic of South Africa, and what a way to represent her country as once having captained both the South African Women’s Rugby 15’s and 7’s team, we introduce the incredible, the powerful, Marithy Pienaar!
Her professional career took off in 2010 at the University of Pretoria (TUKS) and oh boy, did it take off, as the next year she joined the Springbok Women’s 15s squad and not only was she selected to represent her country but she was proudly named Captain as well. In 2013, Pienaar took a “swift” turn in her rugby career as she left 15’s rugby and joined the Springbok Women’s 7’s National team. With all her professional rugby experience and leadership skills, it came as no surprise that she was given the opportunity to captain her 7’s team as well.
Even though Pienaar retired from playing rugby full time in 2018, she has not stopped sharing her rugby knowledge and years of experience with 7’s Rugby Academies in South Africa and making sure that rugby opportunities for young girls are more easily accessible.
We are beyond excited for Pienaar to polish off her golden boots for our R10C tournament! We know that Marithy Pienaar will have a great impact on any team she represents next month in Lisbon, playing the sport she loves!
