Frederik “Frikkie” De Beer

Frikkie de Beer, South African born and old scholar of Hoërskool Brits and North-West University, Potchefstroom. In University he played rugby for the Barbarians and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Science.

It was after he graduated that he moved to the U.S. playing rugby with the Chicago Lions in 2015. He was part of the team that went to the Elite Cup Championship in 2018 and was part of their 2017 and 2019 Midwest Championship victories.

De Beer showed his willingness to keep fit and ready last year when he and several of his Chicago Lions colleagues made a gym shed to keep working out with weights when the season shut down.

De Beer said he was grateful to UCLA coach Dave Clancy for alerting him to a possible opening at the Giltinis after the pair had enjoyed success in Chicago.

Following a handful of matches, De Beer was released from the squad in June and was at the end of his short term contract. The Utah Warriors have re-signed Frederick ‘Frikkie’ De Beer for the 2020 Major League Rugby season.
